You might be great at visiting your dentist. And they love to see you twice a year. But keep in mind that solid dental health practices happen at home.
It doesn’t take much… a few minutes in the morning and a few at night. You’ll be golden. So let us get you started with these home dental care tips:
Twice daily teeth brushing – If you take care of your teeth at all right now, this is the habit you probably maintain. Make sure that you’re brushing your teeth twice a day, once in the morning and once at night. Consider purchasing an electronic toothbrush for the best results.
Once daily flossing – This may be a tough habit to get into, but it’s essential to maintain complete dental health. Brushing your teeth simply does not reach every tooth surface. Flossing will clean between your teeth. Don’t worry if your gums bleed just a bit when you start flossing regularly. The process with strengthen your gums as it cleans your teeth.
Weekly mouth wash – There’s no need to use mouth wash every day. In fact, too much mouth wash for some people can damage teeth. However, rinsing with mouth wash every so often can help wash away the lingering bacteria in your mouth. Plus, it’ll leave your mouth minty fresh.
Replace toothbrush often – No matter how much you love the toothbrush you already have, toothbrushes are only effective for about three months. To ensure that you’re brushing thoroughly, you must replace your toothbrush four times a year. Consider stocking up on toothbrushes to make the transition easier.
Maintain a healthy diet – Did you know that there are foods that keep your teeth healthy? Lean protein, mozzarella cheese, yogurt, and peanuts are particularly good for your teeth. Keep them around for easy snacking.
Avoid sugar – Hard candy and soda are the worst foods for your teeth, as they cause sugar to linger. Consequently, your teeth can develop cavities. Avoid sugary foods, if possible. If they’re simply unavoidable, make sure that you brush your teeth as soon as possible.
Stop smoking – Not starting in the first place is the best option. But if you’re already a smoker, try a program to quit. You likely already know that smoking can cause cancer, including oral cancer, but it can also stain your teeth. Keep your teeth white and bright, and stop smoking!
