Considerations during a dental emergency
If you experience a dental emergency, you need to see a dentist right away. However, there are some things you should keep in mind before heading to the dentist. Here are some considerations during a dental emergency:
- First and foremost, if you are experiencing bleeding, pain, or swelling, you need to control the bleeding immediately. Rinse the mouth with warm water, and then apply pressure to the bleeding area with a clean cloth. If the bleeding does not resolve, head to the emergency room.
- If you have knocked out a tooth, try to locate the tooth and bring it with you to Gentle Dental Care. Rinse off the tooth but do not scrub it or handle it by the root. If possible, return the tooth back in the socket. If you cannot do this, place the tooth in a cup of liquid like milk or water.
- For a cracked tooth, rinse the mouth immediately with warm water and apply a cold compress to the mouth. See our dentist as soon as possible.
- If you have anything caught between your teeth, try to remove it with floss. Please do not use anything sharp to pick at your teeth as this could damage them further. If you cannot remove the object, see our team.
